PRAIRIE HAWK PRIDE
On Friday (7/9), our seniors participated in the second annual Senior Day of Service. The goal of this day is to give back and support the community that gives us so much. This year the seniors helped the Hospice House of Greater Cedar Rapids. The boys helped with some landscaping and yard work by mowing, washing windows, planting trees, and weeding flower beds. Over the course of the day, the seniors were able to fix up three yards of residents in hospice care.
Hey Prairie Hawks,
We're only a couple months away from summer and that means our summer lifting, agility, and fundamentals programs will be starting soon. The calendar page has been updated with our schedule for the summer. Check the event details for more specific information about each event. Please note that some events are still being planned and more details will come on those when we have them available for you.
I apologize for not getting this information updated sooner, but the schedules for all levels have been revised for this season and the varsity roster has been updated. I will update the Freshmen and Sophomore over the next couple of days.
This Monday (8/16), we will be hosting the first Charity Scrimmage to showcase all the Prairie football teams from the Metro to varsity level. Admissions are free, but we will be taking donations that we will then disperse between three charities ( St. Jude's Children Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, and Camp Courageous). The schedule for the games is posted below.
Players, please be at the school by 6:00 to prepare for the scrimmage and cheer on the younger teams.
Players and Families,
Hopefully you received an email from Michelle Phelps earlier this week about the team barbecue this Saturday. We will be hosting it in the high school cafeteria from 6:00-7:30. Please come to enjoy time with the other Prairie football families and for a parent and player meeting to begin the season. We have had meat graciously donated by Elite Sports, so no need to bring main dishes, but we do need you all to bring side dishes or desserts. Here's the breakdown by grade level:
Please make sure to bring your own plates, silverware, and drinks because those will not be provided. We look forward to seeing you all this weekend and for the start of the 2016 season next Monday.
Friday's camps will have some slight modifications. Varsity players will be lifting at their usual time (7:30 am) and then heading to a football camp held by St. Ambrose at 11:00 am. Freshmen and Sophomores will be practicing at 6:30 am, then lifting after that camp gets done (around 7:30 or 7:45), and should be done around the normal time of 8:30.
All players that are planning on attending the Camp Dodge on Friday please read the following. Tuesday or Wednesday, you will be receiving a waiver form for the camp. You will need to fill it out and bring it with you on Friday for when we go to the camp. Plan on this being a full day excursion. Plan on being at the school at 5:45 am by the football field to board buses, and we should be back by 6:00 or 6:30 pm. Players make sure you have a way to contact your parents when we're on on way home, so that if we get done earlier or are running late, then you can call and let them know. IF you have any questions please ask one of the coaches over the next couple of days. We as a coaching staff are really looking forward to this opportunity for you to be challenged in new ways and grow as a team.
Congrats to alumni Jojo Simpson and Ben Boldt and former head coach Morrissey on winning the Shrine Bowl on Saturday (7/25). The South team won 37-24. The defense was stout during the 1st and 3rd quarters when Ben and Jojo were playing. Both men made key tackles to force three and outs. Coach Morrissey had the offense running on all cylinders and could have been higher if the offense would have had more possessions. Next year, Jojo will be playing at Upper Iowa with several Prairie alum, and Ben will play at MIT. Good luck with your futures men. We look forward to seeing how you play and grow over the next few years. As for coach Morrissey, he'll be back in Arizona helping build up the program at Desert Mountain High School.
